“I’ve always been somewhat of a risk-taker and have managed to get myself out of a few risky situations…once getting myself safely out of the Ivory Coast after the 1999 Coup d’Etat and again in 2014…out of the Central African Republic (during their civil war!)”

Crowdfunded $50,000 in August 2024
Meet Rachel Kauffman of Sacramento – Registered Nurse, Legal Nurse Consultant, and Travel Advisor – Crowdfunded through our $50,000 Orange Queue in August of 2024:
“This award will help with my remaining student loan and mortgage payments, and to help a family member about to enter their first year of college.
I felt shock and awe and relief when I found out. I told a few friends and took a long nap once I was in the funding box (after staying up nearly the entire night before).
I am the ever-eternal student (lol)! Bachelors from Goshen College (Biology, Environmental Science, and Business Information Systems). A whole slew of nursing schools, with master’s degrees in nursing and public health from Emory University
I grew up in a tiny town in rural northeastern Indiana in Amish country. I moved cross-country in ~ 2010 to northern California and eventually ended up in Sacramento at the end of 2010 – at the time, it still had a “small town” in a city feel. Though it’s grown substantially, I still appreciate what remains of the “small town” feel, the proximity to some amazing natural scenery, and of course, being in the “Farm to Fork Capital.”
My work keeps me pretty busy, but outside of work, I am focused on integrating my adopted visually impaired shelter cats with my other animals, working towards decreasing the pet population (please spay/neuter your animals and adopt from the local shelters), and finding ways to support the veterinary profession and reduce the kill rates of animal shelters.
I’m also learning to write entertaining (and mostly true) travel adventure stories.
“I’ve always been somewhat of a risk-taker and have managed to get myself out of a few risky situations while traveling internationally (with some strategic help) – once getting myself safely out of the Ivory Coast after the 1999 Coup d’Etat and again in 2014, getting myself safely out of the Central African Republic (during their civil war) after volunteering as an operating room nurse with Doctors Without Borders.”
*Also finishing the Dopey Challenge at Walt Disney World (completing 48.6 miles in 4 consecutive days)
I enjoy luxury/expedition river cruising and exploring unique travel destinations. I also appreciate challenging games, beach volleyball/working out, learning new skills, reading, and spending time with my animals.”
